State Lines by Becca Andrews

You moved to Texas this summer

Can’t believe you’re really gone

You’re the best friend

The one who’s always been there

But now you’re gone

There’s the telephone

We talk that way every day

There’s the webcam

We use that once in a while

It’s not the same though

As seeing you in person every single day

Mom says it’s just state lines that separate us

A few borders

Some imaginary lines that could never divide our friendship

She was right

You visit all the time

And not a day goes by where we don’t talk

You’re the best friend

You always will be

No stupid state lines can ever take that away.
