Summer Sunday Rain by Hailey Brett

She was swaying

And the sky opened up

She was dreaming

And the rain began to fall

She left without anyone knowing

The warmth of the house replaced

With sweet cool rain falling

Her dress became heavy, in a wonderful way

She skipped to the main road, humming

No one was there in the downpour to hear

But she didn’t care, the trees were listening

Her hair became wet, thick ropes

The road became a river, flowing

Underneath her bare feet and she danced

She began humming, her dance quickening

The raindrops became heavier and heavier

The rain fell harder, and she began twirling

The drops and her feet made craters in the street

Faster, faster, went the girl, in her own world, dancing

Faster, faster, went the rain, pounding on the real world

She was dancing

They slowed down

She was finishing

And the rain applauded.
